Introduction on
The 2nd Hong Kong International WuShu Competition
And The International Health Qigong Demonstration 2007
“Wu”, or martial art, is more than a sport. It is an art, a Chinese philosophy deeply rooted in our Chinese culture. A martial art forum is more than a tournament, but a meeting place for friends from afar. To promote the art, the culture, the spirit of sportsmanship, we are pleased that the 2nd Hong Kong International Wushu Competition and The International Exhibition on QiGong will be organized in Hong Kong. We are also glad to have the event organized in celebration of the 10th anniversary on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and as a pre XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing to promote the Olympic spirit. Special thanks are extended to The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chinese Wushu Association, Chinese Health Qigong Association of the Mainland, Hong Kong Wushu Union, for their ardent support to the 2nd Hong Kong International Wushu Competition 2007 cum The International Exhibition on Health QiGong.
We have very encouraging responses for the Competition. A total of 19 different countries with over 127 teams from United State of America, Columbia, Venezuela, Chili, Czech Republic, Myanmar, Indonesia, Finland, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Poland, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, China Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Jiejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Liaoling, Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Sichuan, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Shanxi and Guangdong with over 1000 athletes will compete in over 2,000 sport events. What’s more, the ages of the athletes range from over 90 to the youngest at 5 years. In response, new awards are added: The Best Overall Individual for 4 age categories and Overall Group Championship. Over a hundred and twenty thousands Hong Kong dollars will be awarded to the winners.
Brief profile of key Competitors
1. Liu Yang—from Li Hui Wushu Cultural Center, winner of Overall Individual of the 1st Hong Kong International Wushu Competition. He will compete for the Tai Chi Quan, Jian and Qiang. He will also compete for the Overall Individual Award.
2. Xi Qian Fa—from China’s Zhejiang Center of International Sporting Co-operation, student of Master Chang Gao Zhen for the Yi Xin Quan. With the support and tuition from Mr. Xi Zeng Yi, their Wu Xin Quan is one of the strongest teams for the National Yi Xin Quan Competition.
3. Xu Qi Cheng—from Liao Ling Province, one of the best masters for the first and second generation. He will bring a total of 25 competitors from his region to participate in the event. With over 40 years of experiences, Mr Xu created his own unique school of Quan.
4. Xu Dao Sheng—the vice chairperson of the Zhanjiang Shi Hai Bing Sport Association, is an expertise on Chen’s Tai Chi. Brought up in a fishing village in Zhejiang province, he plays Tai Chi for good health and fitness, and now becomes a professional player. Tai Chi is also very popular in the village.
5. The Official Director of E Mei Shan leads a group of expertise on E Mei Wushu and join the 2nd Hong Kong International Wushu Competition.
6. Other competitors include delegation from The World Chinese Association for Chen’s Tai Chi Quan, Wenzhou Nan Quan from the 1st Hong Kong International Wushu Competition, Long Wan Nan Quan, Zhong Tai Wu Xiao from Hangzhou, Mr. Jin Zong Hui will perform Chan Yan Gan at an age of over 90, etc.
To raise awareness of Health QiGong and foster friendship amongst practitioners from all over the world, an International Health QiGong Exhibition will be held simultaneously. Health QiGong is inclusive of Yi Gen Jin, Wu Qin Xi, Liu Zi Que, Ba Duan Jin, etc. Awards for the Best Individual and the Best Group performance will be given under Health QiGong’s categories.
A set of tailor-made Marking Scheme is created to evaluate Health QiGong. The scheme is based on Moving Action, Breathing Technique, Concentration, Live performance, etc.
With the addition of Health QiGong. QiGong practitioners also participate in the event. Mr. Huang Ling Hai, the vice chairperson of National Sport Centrum QiGong Management Center, will lead his team to Hong Kong. Mr. Huang Ling Hai is also being invited as the honorable chairperson.
Moreover, we are happy to have the Hon Mrs Rita FAN HSU Lai-tai, GBS, JP, The President of the Legislative Council of The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to be the honorable guest for the opening ceremony of The 2nd Hong Kong International Wushu Competition 2007 and The International Exhibition on Health QiGong. Mrs. Fan Hsu will also be invited as the Guardian for the Vow of Competition.
We have also invited Mis Guo Li— Vice director, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR. She will be the honorable guest for the Opening and the Closing Ceremonies.
Mr. Wang Xiao Ling—Director of Wushu Sports Centre, Central Administration of Sport of China, Chairman of The Chinese Wushu Association, Secretary general of International Wushu Federation, has wrote message of congratulation to the grand enent. That is Wushu Enhance Health and Help to Create a Harmonious Society.
